Spanish Verb ROMPER: to break

The Spanish verb romper means 'to break' and is a regular Spanish ER verb, all except for its past participle.

To remember this, imagine you break toys in the kids' ROMPER room ROMPing around!

Spanish verb romper - break romper (de) can also mean: to smash, to snap, to tear, to rip; to burst open.
romperse (vr): to get broken, to get smashed; to wear out.
romper con algo/alguien:
to break with something / someone.


Spanish to break is romper romper a + infinitive : to begin or start to...
romper a llorar / en llanto: to burst into tears.
romper a reír: to burst into laughter.
romper las reglas: to break the rules.


Spanish for break is romper al romper el día: at the break of dawn.
rompecorazones (nfpl): heartbreaker.
rompehielos (nmpl): icebreaker.
rompiente (nmpl): shoal, rocks (wavebreakers).

you informal vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In regular ER verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
