Spanish Verb ASISTIR: to be present

The Spanish verb asistir means 'to be present' and is a regular Spanish IR verb.

To remember this, imagine a doctor saying to the nurse, "I need you to be present at the operation so you can ASSIST HERE!"

Around 250 verbs are conjugated like asistir, and for the month of April a new regular IR verb is featured each day to enable you to consolidate the IR verb family. You will learn other verbs such as acudir, admitir, añadir, aplaudir and many others.

asistir a las clases: to attend classes
asistir a los pobres: to care for the poor.

Spanish to be present at is asistir asistente (adj): be present, attending.
personas asistentes: those present, the audience.
el/la asistente : (nm/f) assistant.
la asistente social: social worker.

Spanish for be present at is asistir la asistencia (nf) : attendance; assistance.
tener faltas de asistencia : to be absent from (not in attendance).
la asistencia social (nf) : social work.
la asistencia médica (nf) : medical care, attention.
la asistencia en carretera (nf) : breakdown (roadside) assistance.

you informal vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In regular IR verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
