Spanish Verb DESPEDIR: to say goodbye

The Spanish verb despedir means 'to say goodbye ' and is an irregular Spanish IR verb.

To remember this, imagine DESPERATE DEER say goodbye to their young!

Around 30 verbs are conjugated like despedir, replacing the e with an i in the present, preterite, subjunctive and imperative tenses.

Spanish verb despedir - say goodbye despedir can also mean: to bid farewell: to emit, to discharge, to dismiss, to give notice, to sack; to set forth.
despedirse de alguien (vr): to say goodbye to someone.
Se despide atentamente: Yours sincerely (at end of a letter).

Spanish to say goodbye is despedir la despedida (nf): farewell, goodbye.
una despedida soltero/soltera (nmf): stag party / hen party (lit. farewell to bachelor/spinster).

Spanish for say goodbye is despedir una carta/regalo de despedida (nf): a farewell card/present.
un discurso de despedida (nm): a farewell speech.

you informal vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In irregular IR verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
