Spanish Verb MENTIR: to lie

The Spanish verb mentir means 'to lie' and is an irregular Spanish IR verb.

To remember this, imagine George Washington saying, "We are not MEANT to tell a lie HERE!"

mentir descaradamente: to lie shamelessly.

Es muy mentiroso: He is a terrible liar.

Spanish for lie is mentir la mentira (nf): lie.
mentira piadosa: white lie.
una araña de mentiras: a toy spider.

you informal vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In irregular IR verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
