Spanish verb prometer - promise prometer can also mean: to be promising, to show promise.
prometerse (vr): to promise oneself; to get engaged; expect.
prometersélas muy felices: to have high hopes.
Te lo prometo: I promise (you), I can tell you.

Spanish to promise is prometer la promesa (nf): promise.
Cupli (con) mi promesa: I kept my promise.
romper una promesa: to break a promise.
Faltó a su promesa: S/he didn't keep his/her promise.

Spanish for promise is prometer prometido/a (adj/pp): promised, engaged.
el prometido / la prometida (nm/f): fiancé/e (promised one).
Lo prometido es deuda: A promise is a promise.
(dueda = debt)

Spanish verb prometer is to promise vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
