Spanish Verb VESTIR: to dress

The Spanish verb vestir means 'to dress ' and is an irregular Spanish IR verb.

To remember this, imagine you dress in a VEST 'ERE!

Around 30 verbs are conjugated like vestir, replacing the e with an i in the present, preterite, subjunctive and imperative tenses.
During the second part of October a new irregular IR verb is featured each day to enable you to consolidate this IR verb family. You will learn other verbs such as comedirse, despedir, embestir, medir, servir and others.

Spanish verb vestir - dress vestir can also mean: to wear, to clothe; to decorate.
vestir de algo: to wear something.
de vestir : smart.
saber vestir : to know how to dress.

Spanish to dress is vestir vestirse: to dress (oneself), to get dressed
vestirse de algo to wear something; to dress up as something.
la vestimenta (nf): clothes, vestiments; get-up (coll).
el vestidor (nm) : dressing room, locker room, changing room.

Spanish for dress is vestir el vestido (nm) : dress, clothes, suit.
vestido/a : (pp/adj): dressed.
bien/mal vestido: to dress well / to dress badly.
el vestido de calle: casual clothes (lit. street clothes).
el vesticio de paisano: plain clothes (lit of the peasant).
el vestido de baño / de fiesta swimsuit, swimming costume / party dress.

you informal vos replaces - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In irregular IR verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
Presente:      vos vestís
Imperativo:  ¡vestí!
