I think the way he breaks down the language it makes it much easier to learn the essentials and start to think in the language. All those other things lists can happen later.
This has been especially true of the chinese course (completed post humously). Learning chinese is like learning telephone numbers. Anything which makes it easier is a blessing. Only the Michel Thomas course came anywhere near helping. (They did have a native chinese speaker.)
