French Lesson 1 - Common Words (1)
- Elodie : « Bonjour Jérôme, comment vas-tu ? »
- Jérôme: : « Ça pourrait aller mieux ! A partir de demain jusqu’à fin juin, ma femme est en congés pendant que moi, je vais encore devoir travailler une semaine ! »
Elodie : “
Good morning Jerome, how are you?”
Jérôme: “Could be better!
From tomorrow until the end of June, my wife’s on holiday while I
still have one week more to work!”
- Elodie : « Et voilà ! Tu n’as qu’à dire au patron que tu souhaites récupérer tes heures supplementaire (sup’) maintenant, au lieu de toujours attendre la dernière minute et de toutes les perdre finalement ! »
- Jérôme : « Oui, mais je n’arrive pas à me décider parce que soit je les prends maintenant et je suis en congé en même temps que ma femme, soit j’attends encore un peu et je serai à la maison pendant qu’elle, elle sera au boulot ! »
Elodie: “
There it is/That’s it! You just have to tell the boss that you wish to take your overtime hours in lieu now, instead of
always waiting until the very last moment and losing them all in the end!”
Jérôme: “Yes, but I can’t make a decision because
either I take them now and I’m on holiday at the same time as my wife,
or I wait
a little more and I’ll be at home while she’s working!”
- Elodie : « Décidément, tous les hommes sont tordus ! Mes amies ont raison ; vous ne pensez avant tout qu’à vous-mêmes ! »
- Jérôme : « C’est bon à savoir que les femmes pensent ça de nous, j’en aviserai mes amis après notre prochain match de foot!»
Elodie: “Men are definitely all mad! My friends were right; you only think of yourselves
before everything/anything else!”
Jérôme: “It’s
good to know what women think about us! I’m going to inform my
friends after our next football game!”
- Elodie : « Et précise-leur bien autre chose ; lorsque vous nous abordez en boîte, il serait préférable d’être encore sobre et de tenir un discours cohérent, en évitant de vous décrire comme un Dieu tout puissant, aussi ! »
- Jérôme : « Et tu me dis ça pour… ? »
Elodie: “Don’t forget to tell them
another thing;
when you approach us in a night club, it would be better if you could still be sober, be coherent in your speech, and avoid describing yourselves as almighty,
too!”
Jérôme:“And what are you telling me that
for?”
- Elodie : « Par compassion envers tes amis ! Je les connais par cœur ! »
- Jérôme : « Et voici un autre trait féminin : toujours juger avant de connaître ! »
- Elodie :« Tu te crois expert en la matière! Mais tout ça te passe par-dessus la tête en réalité ! Bon, aller, je dois retourner travailler, passe le bonjour à ta femme ! Au revoir ! »
Elodie: “Out of sympathy (compassion) for your
friends! I know them
by heart”
Jérôme: “And
here is another feminine trait: always judging before knowing!”
Elodie:“You believe you’re an expert in this field! But actually, all of it (that) goes
over your head! Well (anyway), come on, I must get back to work,
say hello to your wife for me!
Goodbye!”
