Settings - Lesson/Test Sequences

The Settings Menu allows you to choose numerous settings to assist with better learning.·

The first two selections allow you to choose whether or not to have the Lessons or Tests in a 'Logical' or 'Random' sequence.

The 'logical' sequence is:

  1. usually alphabetical,
  2. For numbers it is numerical order,
  3. for days of the week and months, in date order.

Testing in Random sequence is a little more demanding.

Settings - Excelearning Breathing

Breathing rhythmically can enhance learning

The Excelearning Breathing setting allows you to choose a tool to regulate your breathing. Studies show that regular rhythmic breathing improves learning.

Information is fed in timed sequences.

First a red box saying BREATHE IN appears.

Slowly Breathe In for the length of time that the green box appears.

Relax.·A green box saying HOLD appears.

Now, hold your breath. Concentrate on the information, the text, the sound, the picture.

Absorb as many details as you can.

Repeat the French out loud.

Then an amber box saying BREATHE OUT appears. Breathe Out gently for the duration of the box's appearance. This can be done in Auto Mode or not.

Settings - Rapid Mode

Choose Logical or Random sequencing

The Rapid Mode is plays the English word and sound, the French word and sound, but not the Memory Trigger word and sound.

It is a great mode for Reviewing and Previewing Lessons, or for checking out, say prior to a Test, or for general review and revision.

This is also a mode for those who prefer not to hear the Memory Triggers being spoken. It is very quick.Experiment a bit with the different modes!

The Background Music Mode allows you to turn on the program's background music.

Certain studies show that some types of music soothe the brainwaves in to the smooth 'alpha brainwaves' that are the ideal for learning.·

This is a relaxed state of 'heightened awareness' and is the optimum learning state.

There is a selection of Baroque music pieces, which are 'largo' movements that are deemed to be good examples of music with the correct beat and tempo to automatically ease the brain's waves in to the alpha state.

Clicking the Background Music box so that the tick is visible will turn the music on.·

If your Music sound quality falters...

PC's with less computing power might struggle to play the music and the course. If this occurs switch off this mode.

Settings - Background Music

Music can soothe brainwaves to Alpha State

The Background Music Settings allows you to select the program's background music.

Baroque Largo Movements you can choose

There is a selection of Baroque music pieces, which are 'largo' movements that are deemed to be good examples of music with the correct beat and tempo to automatically ease the brain's waves in to the alpha state.

  • Corelli Concerto 8 Opus 6 Largo.
  • Vivaldi Concerto Opus 4 No 1 Largo
  • Vivaldi Four Seasons Winter Largo

Below the selection is a Volume Selector Bar. PC's with less computing power might struggle to play the music and the course. If this occurs switch off this mode.

Settings - Auto Run

Great for Preview & Review

The Auto Run Setting allows you to watch the Lesson without using any keystrokes.

This is ideal as a Preview and/or Review setting.·

This is great for a quick overview.

Also great for a review the next day, pre-Test, rapid revision etc.

See if you can beat the computer with the answers.

Settings - Summary

Great for Preview & Review

The Summary Setting allows you to view mini-pics of the Lesson's words and phrases at the end of the Lesson.

This is another great tool for a quick overview.

Cover the words with one hand, and see if you can remember the word or phrase, just by looking at the picture.

You can click on the pic to see and hear it play.

The Summary (Sound) Setting allows you to turn off the Background Music when the Summary pics show.

The sound being on, with all those pics in view, can slow down PC's with less memory.

Settings Menu - Settings for Pre-Test Lesson

Set the Lesson type for Scheduled Tests

The Lesson pre-Test Settings allow you to set what settings you want on your Schedule Tests.

The Schedule prompts you when to review Lessons after certain 'optimum intervals'.·

These are a

  1. day,
  2. week,
  3. month,
  4. 3 months &
  5. year.

Before each Test you can pre-program a particular type of Lesson.

  1. 0 = No Lesson before the Test
  2. 1 = Summary Only
  3. 2 = Auto Run Rapid
  4. 3 = Auto Run Normal
  5. 4 = Excelearning Lesson
  6. 5 = Kinesthetic Lesson

e.g. to program an Excelearning Lesson before your Monthly Test, put the number 4 in the Monthly Test window.

Your Worst Words

Sledgehammer them!

Your scores for every word or phrase that you attempt during testing, are recorded in your private database, and ranked by the computer.

These automatically form a Lesson/Test called 'My Worst Words'.

This 30 word lesson is constantly updated, with the rankings changing depending on your overall score for each word, calculated over all the times you have attempted the word during a Test.

You should regularly do the Lesson and Test 'My Worst Words' (see the Lesson Menu), to hammer them!

The 'My Worst Words' Lesson will be presented in your Schedule every week.

Rapid Mode & Auto Run

Another Great Tool for Preview & Review

Rapid Mode, Auto Run·

For speedy reviewing and revision of your Lessons you can turn the sound of the Memory Triggers off.

From the Settings Menu click on Rapid Mode to achieve this.

Great for quick Preview or Review·

On the Settings Menu you can select Auto Run which allows you to watch the Lesson as it automatically changes pages.

The program will just automatically run itself through the Lesson.

To stop Auto Run, press the 'Esc' key.
